Under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the department organized a lecture titled "Women's Rights and Gender Equality" on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall at the Computer Science Department building. The event was held in cooperation with the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies / Human Rights Division. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Riyadh Khalil, with the presence of Dr. Anmar Ali, Director of Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations at the Computer Science Department.
This lecture aligns with the fifth pillar of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Gender Equality, as all United Nations member states adopted these goals in 2015 to build more peaceful and prosperous societies by 2030. The lecture introduced the concept of women’s empowerment, emphasizing its importance in enabling women to face life’s challenges and their crucial role in society. It also discussed how women can be leaders and have complete freedom in making their own choices. Furthermore, it highlighted the government's initiative to establish women’s empowerment units in ministries and institutions, conduct human resource training programs for leadership positions without gender discrimination, support women in assuming leadership roles, and provide the necessary resources for small business projects to help them become self-reliant in overcoming life’s difficulties.
At the conclusion of the event, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to the lecturer in recognition of her efforts in delivering this lecture.
