- Under the supervision and presence of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, the department held a workshop titled "Forgery of Official Documents for Students and the Resulting Penalties" on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in the discussion hall of the Computer Science building. The lecture was delivered by the Director of the Legal Unit in the department, Teacher Amal Abduljabbar, and the Legal Advisor Muqdad Fadil, with the attendance of the Scientific Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Tareq Mawlud, the Administrative Assistant Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, faculty members, and students of the department. Initially, the workshop defined the crime of forgery as per the Iraqi Penal Code, stating it as altering the truth with the intent to deceive in a document or any other record using physical or moral methods, causing harm to a specific individual or the public interest. It's a dangerous scourge threatening society, affecting not only individuals but also institutions, varying from country to country. The awareness level and the legislator's role in curbing this crime were highlighted, emphasizing that increased penalties reduce crimes. The workshop stressed the role of departments and institutions in protecting their documents and records through the use of barcodes and QR codes. The workshop clarified that forgery fundamentally involves causing harm with malicious intent. The harm can be general, affecting state institutions, or specific, impacting individuals. It covered forgery methods, including hiding information, forging stamps or signatures, or omitting parts of information. Punishments for forging official state documents include imprisonment for up to fifteen years, while forgery of private documents can lead to imprisonment ranging from 3 to 7 years. However, forgers are not punished if they do not use the forged documents or report them to security authorities. At the end of the workshop, appreciation certificates were distributed to the lecturers in recognition of their efforts in delivering the seminar, and a commemorative photo was taken.
