- Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Computer Science Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Combating Rumors, organized the symposium tagged “Rumors and their Impact on Community Security” on Tuesday 10/24/2023. In the discussion room in the Computer Science Department Annex, in the presence of the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlood, and the department’s professors and students. The lecture was given by Colonel Sinan Najm Abdullah from the Department of Combating Rumors in the Ministry of the Interior, during which he defined a rumor as news or a group of false news that spreads in society quickly and is circulated among the public, thinking that it is true. These news are often interesting and arousing the curiosity of society and researchers, and they lack a reliable source that bears evidence of the authenticity of the news. Who provided the oldest? Rumors: What happened in the Battle of Uhud when news of the death of the Great Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and his family and grant them peace, was spread, so the Muslims came down from the mountain and lost the battle. Rumors have been classified into types, including the creeping rumor, which is one that moves slowly and with a degree of secrecy, and the fear rumor, which appears when fear controls people. With the advent of social media, with its interactive tools, the future has the ability to participate actively and more effectively in communication processes and has contributed to the spread of rumours. Some rumors generate fear within the human psyche. When society is cohesive, rumors cannot be spread. Some rumors lead to sabotaging economic projects when it is rumored that their quality is low or that they are of no quality. There are autobiographical rumors when social figures are targeted and an attempt is made to inflame public opinion through Photoshop. Either Other rumors are the rumor of nerve warfare and are used in wars to win people over, the rumor of charlatans who win people with quackery, and the rumor of hope that destroys the relationship between the citizen and the state. At the conclusion of the symposium, the head of the department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Interior, Department of Combating Rumors, and souvenir photos were taken.
