Selection of Asst. Lecturer Fadhil Abbas Fadhil to Participate in the Workshop on Drafting the Proposed Law for the Iraqi Programmers Syndicate
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, a specialized workshop was held at the Iraqi Council of Representatives to discuss the drafting of the proposed law for the Iraqi Programmers Syndicate, with the presence of a distinguished group of experts and decision-makers in the field of Information Technology and Legislation.
The workshop was chaired by Mr. Saad Fayadh Mawzan, Director General of the Parliamentary Development Institute, with the participation of Dr. Mohammed Qasim Al-Mayahi, Director General of the Parliamentary Legislation Department, Mr. Saeed Abdul Kareem, President of the Syndicate’s Founding Council, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Azzawi, the Official Spokesperson of the Founding Council, along with several members of parliament and specialized professors in the field of IT.
The workshop discussed the technical and legal aspects of the proposed law, with valuable feedback aimed at enhancing the syndicate’s role in supporting programmers and organizing their work within Iraq.
As part of this effort, Asst. Lecturer Fadhil Abbas Fadhil, Head of the IT Division in the Computer Science Department, and Asst. Lecturer Abu Bakr Sa’ib from the Information Technology Center at the University of Technology, were selected to actively participate in the workshop. They shared their specialized opinions and contributed to enriching the technical and legal discussions on the law’s draft.
This participation reflects the importance of academic and technical expertise in shaping legislation that serves the IT sector and helps develop a better programming environment in Iraq.

Strengthening Scientific Research Ties Between the Journal of Flexible Computing and Computer Applications and Iraqi Universities
In order to strengthen the scientific research ties between the Journal of Flexible Computing and Computer Applications and Iraqi universities — and given that the journal has been accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research as a recognized scientific journal for academic promotions and other scientific activities — the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Asst. Prof. Dr. Heba Basim Alwan, distributed copies of the journal’s issues to several university deanships in Iraq. These included the Deanship of the College of Science, the College of Science for Women, the College of Engineering, and the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, as well as the Deanship of the College of Science, the College of Engineering, and the College of Information Engineering at Al-Nahrain University.

The Department of Computer Science Organizes a Workshop on the Principles of Official Correspondence
Under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Department of Computer Science organized a workshop titled "Principles of Official Correspondence". The workshop was delivered by the Head of the Legal Division, Lecturer Amal Abdul-Jabbar Hassouni, on Tuesday, February 26, 2025, in the Late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall. The event was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Jasim Hadi, and the Director of the Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations Division, Dr. Anmar Ali.
The workshop defined official correspondence as the documents directed to institutions or individuals, following a set of standards. It introduced the types of official letters, such as requests, thank-you letters, and complaints. It also explained how these correspondences could be from a higher authority to a lower one, or vice versa.
The workshop addressed the components of official letters, starting with the title, which should be clear and attention-grabbing, and detailed the steps for writing official correspondence.
This workshop is considered an important step in enhancing administrative performance and serving our beloved country.
At the end of the workshop, the lecturer was awarded a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts in delivering this valuable lecture.

Outstanding Participation of Computer Science Department Students and Faculty in the Final of the Iraqi Universities Debate World Cup
In coordination with the esteemed Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Alaa Kazem, the students of the Artificial Intelligence Branch participated as coordinators, accompanied by the respected Head of the AI Branch, Dr. Dina Kazem, and several faculty members of the department. This took place during the final of the Iraqi Universities Debate World Cup, organized by the International Academy for Leadership and Development (IALD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Directorate of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up. The event was hosted at the University of Technology on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, and was a remarkable academic occasion.

Head of the Computer Science Department Participates in the Launch of the Iraqi Industry Support Exhibition
The Head of the Computer Science Department, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, accompanied by the heads of the department’s branches, participated in the launch of the Iraqi Industry Support Exhibition, organized by the University of Technology in its university halls, under the patronage of the University’s President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghaban, with wide participation from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals’ companies, from February 23 to 25.
During the visit, they explored the ministry’s company pavilions and their industrial product displays.
Such exhibitions play a crucial role in strengthening cooperation and communication between researchers and industrial companies, highlighting national products and significant industrial projects, and raising awareness about the importance of supporting local production.
