The Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Baghdad Visits the Department of Computer Science
The Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Baghdad, Mr. Eliot Mann, visited the Department of Computer Science today, Monday, February 24, 2025. He was welcomed by the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, along with the department’s deputies and heads of branches.
This visit follows the approval of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, to participate in discussions related to Iraq’s efforts in addressing climate change, policy, international relations, economics, cybersecurity, and communications.
During the visit, a presentation was given on the projects of students from the Computer Security and Cybersecurity branch, including:
Aiham Haider, a fourth-year student, presented his project titled "Understanding Attacker Behavior in Accessing Sensitive Information and How to Prevent Unauthorized Access."
Haider Basim, a fourth-year student, presented his project titled "Penetration Testing of Wi-Fi Networks and Security Measures."
Muhaimen Ahmed, a third-year student, presented his research titled "Software Analysis for Vulnerability Detection."
Sarhan Imad, a fourth-year student, presented his project on the use of "Phishing Techniques to Protect and Educate Users About Fake Links."
The guest also toured the department’s laboratories.
At the end of the visit, Mr. Mann expressed his admiration and appreciation for the scientific level and skills of the Computer Science students.

The Central University Examination Audit Committee Supervising the Exams Visits the Department of Computer Science
In the presence of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Central University Examination Audit Committee supervising the exams visited the Department of Computer Science today, Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
The committee consisted of members from the Registration and Student Affairs Department, the Legal Affairs Department, and the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department. The visit aimed to audit the integrity of examination procedures in documenting student grades in the grade records to ensure accuracy and credibility, thereby safeguarding students' rights.
At the conclusion of the visit, Professor Dr. Suadad Younis Issam, Director of the Registration and Student Affairs Department, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the examination committees.

The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Department of Computer Science Organizes a Workshop on Drug Abuse, Addiction, and Its Impact on Youth
Under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and as part of the activities of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, the Counseling Committee in the Artificial Intelligence Branch organized a workshop on drug abuse, addiction, and its impact on youth on Monday, February 17, 2025, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall. The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Suhad Mal Allah Kazem, in the presence of the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Branch, Dr. Dina Kazem, the Director of Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations in the department, Dr. Anmar Ali, and members of the educational counseling committees.
The workshop aimed to define drugs as harmful substances that affect the human body and mental health, causing hallucinations and increasing the risk of suicide. It also highlighted the reasons for drug use, such as escaping reality, psychological pressures, and bad company, as well as methods of prevention and ways to diagnose addiction.
The lecturer urged young people to be cautious and avoid taking medications randomly, encouraged their engagement in sports activities, and emphasized the importance of parental supervision over their children.
At the conclusion of the event, the lecturer was awarded a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts in delivering the workshop.

The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies / Human Rights Division, organizes a lecture on women's rights and gender equality.
Under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the department organized a lecture titled "Women's Rights and Gender Equality" on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall at the Computer Science Department building. The event was held in cooperation with the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies / Human Rights Division. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Riyadh Khalil, with the presence of Dr. Anmar Ali, Director of Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations at the Computer Science Department.
This lecture aligns with the fifth pillar of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Gender Equality, as all United Nations member states adopted these goals in 2015 to build more peaceful and prosperous societies by 2030. The lecture introduced the concept of women’s empowerment, emphasizing its importance in enabling women to face life’s challenges and their crucial role in society. It also discussed how women can be leaders and have complete freedom in making their own choices. Furthermore, it highlighted the government's initiative to establish women’s empowerment units in ministries and institutions, conduct human resource training programs for leadership positions without gender discrimination, support women in assuming leadership roles, and provide the necessary resources for small business projects to help them become self-reliant in overcoming life’s difficulties.
At the conclusion of the event, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to the lecturer in recognition of her efforts in delivering this lecture.

The Computer Science Department discussed the Master's thesis titled:
"Forensic-Based Camera Model Identification Using SVM and Deep Neural Network"
by Master's student Ibtihal Mohammed Habib, specializing in Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall at the Computer Science Department building.
The thesis aims to develop a robust system to identify the camera model that captured a specific image. A novel approach was proposed, differing from previous traditional methods. The study provided valuable insights into the strengths and relative limitations of image attribution techniques.

Renewal of the Twinning Agreement Between the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology and the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University
The twinning agreement between the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology and the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University was renewed today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Department of Computer Science by its head, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and on behalf of the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University by its dean, Dr. Furat Hamza Abdul Kazem.
The agreement aims to enhance scientific cooperation between the two institutions, ensuring the unification of visions and curricula, as well as organizing workshops, lectures, and seminars. Additionally, it seeks to facilitate joint scientific activities to contribute to the development of academic and research capabilities.

The Computer Science Department Holds the Second General Assembly Meeting for the 2024-2025 Academic Year
The Computer Science Department held its second general assembly meeting for the 2024-2025 academic year on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall at the department building. The meeting was attended by the Scientific Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, and the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi.
The meeting addressed several key topics, including the necessity of adhering to official working hours, regularly checking the department's website, and updating lecture materials for students with the latest content on the website. The department's website plays a crucial role in evaluating activities, with daily updates on news and lectures, ranking second in visits and first at the university level. The discussion also emphasized encouraging faculty members to publish research in reputable local and international journals, actively participate in conferences, maintain and improve lecture halls, ensure high-quality laboratories, and commend the efforts made in disbursing financial entitlements for faculty members.

Master's student Muhannad Abbas Karji, specializing in Information Systems, along with his supervisor, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhair Mohammed Zaki, visited the Iraqi Media Network to understand the data protection mechanisms they use. The visit aims to enhance and develop the encryption algorithms used through a master's thesis focused on creating a cybersecurity management system to protect data.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Manal Abdulwahid, Head of the Technological Incubators Division, and Assistant Lecturer Fadel Abbas, a faculty member in the Computer Science Department. The Head of the Computer Science Department meets with first-year students
The Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, met with first-year students from all branches admitted for the 2024-2025 academic year on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The meeting was attended by the Administrative Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, the Scientific Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, and the heads of the branches.
During the meeting, the Head of the Department welcomed the new students and wished them a successful academic year. He emphasized the importance of adhering to instructions and maintaining discipline on campus. Students were introduced to the currently applied Bologna Process, informed about the department's website, and advised to consider it a key resource for information, announcements, lectures, and all matters important to students.
