A doctoral dissertation in the Computer Science Department discusses enhancing the electronic currency system using highly complex encryption algorithms.

- The Computer Science Department discussed the doctoral dissertation titled: Improved Electronic Currency System Using High Complexity Encryption Algorithms

by PhD student (Asmaa Abdullah Mohammed), majoring in General Computer Science, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. This work presents an improved electronic currency system that uses highly complex encryption algorithms to enhance security measures by integrating advanced encryption techniques. It aims to protect sensitive financial data from unauthorized access and ensure the integrity and confidentiality of transactions. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Sadiq Abdulaziz Mahdi as Chair, and members Prof. Dr. Sakeena Hassan Hashim, Prof. Dr. Nada Faleh Hassan, Prof. Dr. Shaimaa Hameed Shakir, Prof. Dr. Ikhlas Khalaf Kabashi, Prof. Dr. Abdulmunem Saleh Rahma as a member and supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Hala Bahjat Abdulwahab as a member and supervisor.

A faculty member and a staff member from the Computer Science Department participated in a training workshop on digital health planning organized by UNICEF Iraq in collaboration with the UNICEF Regional Office.

- Professor Dr. Alia Kareem Abdulhassan and IT Systems Specialist Rusul Khudair Kazem from the Computer Science Department participated in a training workshop organized by UNICEF Iraq in collaboration with the UNICEF Regional Office. The workshop was held in Sulaymaniyah from October 27-31, 2024. The training workshop aimed to strengthen capacities for digital transformation in the health sector and to coordinate efforts toward achieving a scalable, sustainable, and interoperable digital health system in the country.

The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Computer Science Department holds a meeting

- Under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Computer Science Department held a meeting today, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, attended by the Unit Director, Dr. Mohammed Ghani, and the members of the sub-counseling committees in the department. During the meeting, preparations and activities for the annual Educational Guidance Week, scheduled for the last week of November each year, were discussed. The branches outlined their planned activities for this occasion, including workshops, seminars, and posters.

The Research and Development Directorate / Entrepreneurial Project Management Department appreciates the efforts of the Computer Science Department's journal.

- The Research and Development Directorate / Entrepreneurial Project Management Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research commended the Journal of Soft Computing and Computer Application, published by the Computer Science Department, based on the attached performance report within the monthly performance reports of Iraqi journals participating on the Elsevier - Digital Commons platform. This recognition is for its efforts in implementing the strategic agreement signed between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Elsevier to enhance the performance of Iraqi journals and facilitate their inclusion in global indexing databases.

A faculty member from the Computer Science Department delivers a lecture in a workshop on the university ecosystem and its role in entrepreneurship and achieving sustainable development goals in the Chemical Engineering Department.

- As part of the workshops organized by the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, a workshop was held on Monday, November 4, 2024, in the Chemical Engineering Department, organized by the Technological Incubator and Ecosystem Division, under the title "The University Ecosystem and Its Role in Entrepreneurship and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals."

The workshop was presented by Dr. Manal Abdulwahid, Head of the Technological Incubator and Ecosystem Division, and platform programmer Assistant Lecturer Fadel Abbas, a faculty member in the Computer Science Department. The workshop covered the importance of the university environment in promoting innovation and supporting entrepreneurship among students, with participants discussing how the university ecosystem can be harnessed to achieve sustainable development goals through projects and initiatives that contribute to economic, social, and environmental development.

A detailed explanation of the ecosystem platform available on the university’s website was also provided. This platform offers various resources for students and entrepreneurs, including information on support programs, workshops, and funding opportunities. It aims to facilitate communication between students, investors, and experts, thereby enhancing innovation and sustainable growth.

The workshop saw significant engagement from students and faculty members, enriching discussions and fostering collaboration across different disciplines.

The Network Management Branch holds an introductory workshop on the branch's aspirations and the skills it aims to provide to students to prepare them for the job market.

- As part of the activities of the Computer Science Department and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, the Network Management Branch in the Computer Science Department organized a workshop with second- and third-year students in the branch to introduce them to the importance of their field of study, the skills they will gain through academic study, and the opportunities and career paths available to them after graduation.

The workshop began with Dr. Saif Bashar Neama, Head of the Branch, who highlighted the importance of this dynamic and rapidly evolving field. He explained that the branch's current focus is on preparing students with the necessary theoretical knowledge regarding computer networks, protocols, and application programming. Various network devices and different cables were presented to familiarize students with them.

Additionally, the second focus area, which the branch particularly emphasizes, is web development. This subject will be studied by Network Branch students in the second semester of the second year, concentrating on web page design (front-end), followed by web application programming (back-end) in later stages. The importance of this field in both local and global job markets was also underscored.

Engineer Mohammed Abdullah explained the practical workings of wired cables, wireless routers, optical cables, and methods for connecting and testing them.

- In the presence of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, and the Scientific Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, the Five-Member Committees met to discuss graduate (PhD) students on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The committees reviewed the progress rates of PhD students in the research phase across all specializations and provided their feedback.
