The Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology awards a PhD for the thesis titled "A Multimodal Emotion Recognition System for the Interaction between Man and Robot"
The Department of Computer Science awarded a doctoral degree to the student (Suhaila Najm Muhammad) in Computer
Science / General for the thesis tagged "A multimodal emotion recognition system for the interaction between man and
robot."
Multimodal Emotion Recognition System For Human Robot Interaction
On Monday, 9/7/2020, in the discussion room in the Computer Science Department building.
The discussion committee consisted of:
Prof. Abbas Mohsen Abdel-Hussein as Chairman
Prof. Dr. Muthel Emad El Din Abdel Moneim, member
Dr. Yusra Hussein Ali, member
Dr. Abeer Salem Al-Bir, member
Prof. Dr. Alia Karim Abdel Hassan, member and supervisor
There are many channels of verbal and non-verbal information that can be used to convey the emotional state to the
robot, such as facial expressions, voice, spoken words, body gestures, and vital signs. In this thesis an automatic
multimedia system for emotion recognition for HRI purposes is presented based on the visual and audio information
extracted from facial expressions. Speech signal.
Five main images were selected to work in the visual data and a new method for identifying facial emotions was
proposed, based on graphic mining, which is a paradigm shift in the way the facial area is represented.
In this thesis, a simple robot head was designed for interactive purpose.
