A master's thesis in the Computer Science Department discusses the automatic evaluation of students' handwritten answers about Arabic poetry.
The Computer Science Department discussed the master's thesis titled:
Automated Evaluation of Student's Handwritten Answers to Arabic Poetic Poems
by the master's student Huda Sabah Shaker, specializing in Computer Science / Information Systems, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The thesis aims to develop a system based on deep learning for the automatic evaluation of Arabic handwritten text. Arabic text poses challenges due to its cursive nature, which increases the difficulty of recognition. The system relies on a convolutional neural network and has achieved high recognition rates, efficiency, accuracy, and fast response times. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Firas Abdul Hameed Abdul Latif as Chair, and members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhad Mal Allah Kazem, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuha Jameel Ibrahim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raheem Abdul Sahib Akla as a member and supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Abdulmunem Saleh Rahma as a member and supervisor.

The Computer Science Department organizes a workshop on the Speicher Massacre and human rights violations.
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, with the presence of the Administrative Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, and the Scientific Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, the Computer Science Department organized, as part of the first semester activities, the workshop titled:
"The Speicher Massacre and Human Rights Violations"
The workshop was presented by (Dr. Haider Zweir, faculty member at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, and political program host on Al-Iraqiya TV) and (Muqdad Fadel Hussein, Legal Advisor and Head of Registration in the Computer Science Department) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the Computer Science Department building.
The workshop discussed the concept of violations, which includes humiliation and undermining the self-worth of an individual or group, and the concept of justice, defined as impartiality in any human trial. It also covered human rights as a set of basic rights that must not be infringed upon, and addressed the violations committed by the Zionist entity against Arab nations, backed by Western countries. The workshop noted that nations supporting this entity enjoy security, while those opposing it face constant danger and disruptions in their political and security systems. The workshop further introduced aspects of international law, classifying the Speicher Massacre as a genocide since it targeted a group of innocent students. It called on the international community to criminalize the terrorist organization responsible for the massacre, aiming to raise public awareness of the suffering caused by the atrocity. At the end of the workshop, the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, awarded certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in recognition of their efforts in delivering the workshop.
