The Department of Computer Science Organizes a Workshop on "Green AI"
Under the patronage of the President of the Technological University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and supervised by the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, as part of the department's activities for the second semester, the Department of Computer Science organized a workshop titled "Green AI". The workshop was conducted by Professor Dr. Hanaa Mohsen Ahmed and Lecturer Dr. Nada Hussein on Monday, 2024/3/4, in the discussion hall of the Computer Science Department annex building. It was attended by the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlood, the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, faculty members, and students of the department.
The workshop covered technologies, algorithms, programs, and systems related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) that help achieve sustainable development goals. It introduced the concept of Green AI, which aims to reduce energy use and thermal emissions. Among its most important applications is its use in agriculture to distribute water and improve fertilizers for sustainable farming. It can also be used in the automation of recycling and waste management to become automatic and is involved in traffic and circuits management.
The benefits of Green AI include reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable practices adjust the use of the circular economy, which has recently emerged, improving efficiency and sustainability.
At the conclusion, the lecturers were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts in delivering the lecture.

The Department of Computer Science Organizes a Workshop on the Advantages and Risks of Artificial Intelligence in Developing Digital Content
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and supervised by the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering and as part of the activities for the second semester, the Department of Computer Science organized a workshop titled "Advantages and Risks of Artificial Intelligence in Developing Digital Content". The workshop was conducted by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Adnan Abduljabbar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Assistant Professor Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Ghithwan from the Department of Computer Science on Sunday, 2024/3/3, in the discussion hall of the Computer Science Department annex building, with the attendance of faculty, staff, and students from the department and the university.
The workshop began by clarifying the difference between the concepts of artificial intelligence and industrial intelligence; the former being a field of computer science dedicated to solving cognitive problems related to human intelligence such as learning, creativity, and image recognition, whereas the latter is specialized in the field of industry.
The workshop highlighted that artificial intelligence is essential to keep up with the rapid developments in the world, as knowledge is boundless and intersects with all sciences, especially engineering in a world dominated by technological obsession.
Among the advantages of artificial intelligence is the possibility of providing images with articles, citing sources, and making suggestions regarding research publication. There are free applications or paid applications that can be useful for article writing, and it is recommended not to rely on a single application but on various applications. Artificial intelligence can also be beneficial in the field of digital content development, with free versions offering all choices, sources, and images, identifying grammatical errors, and the possibility of selecting different information and images from several applications at once.
In conclusion, the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, awarded two certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in recognition of their efforts in delivering this valuable lecture.
