The Department of Computer Sciences participated in the 6th International Conference on Information Technology and Accessibility of Persons with Disabilities in the Sultanate of Oman / Sultan Qaboos University / Faculty of Education for the period (19-21) / 12/2017. with a research by Dr. Abdel-Moneim Saleh Rahma and doctoral student Ali Adel Said entitled (Distinguishing the Assyrian Cuneiform font using the Default Selection Rule).

Participation of the Educational & Guidance Unit of in the course (Behavioral and cognitive guidance strategies for employees in the Guidance units of the University)
The Educational and Guidance Unit participated in the Department of Computer Sciences in the course (Behavioral and cognitive guidance strategies for the staff of the extension units of the University), which was established by the Psychological Research Center at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the period from 17-20 / 12/2017 in order to strengthen the role of extension units in Iraqi Universities. The session was attended by representatives of the extension units in Iraqi universities and lectured by a group of professors specialized in educational guidance. The following topics were discussed:
- Develop programs to build an increase in the concept of self-confidence and teamwork.
- Helping the students solve their problems by solving the problem systematically and putting it in its proper framework.
- Assist the students to how to plan his/her life and ask him/her about the difficulties he/she faces in life to find the appropriate solutions and to choose the appropriate solution.
- Emphasize on the importance of developing teamwork skills.
- Follow-up the students regarding absences and treatment of school delays.
- Cultivate the idea of the individual's compatibility with themselves and others to achieve the mental health of the student.
- Emphasize the culture of dialogue.
- Addressing the theory of rational counseling which consists of thought, emotion and behavior.

Dr. Rahim Abdel-Sahib Okla gave a lecturer in a course entitled "E-Governance"
Dr. Rahim Abdel-Saheb Okla from the computer sciences department. Participated as a lecturer in the course entitled "E-Governance", which was held at the Center for Continuing Education on 17/12/2017 with the aim of raising awareness and implementing e-governance in the institutions of the country and the private sector through the use of information and communication technology to enhance the role of citizen participation Between citizens and the government agencies by raising the level of efficiency and effectiveness in government performance and work to provide accurate information to support decision-making and rationalize government spending and to emphasize transparency in the procedures and to resist change in e-government.

A training course on modern scientific models
A lecturer from the Department of Computer Sciences. Dr. Maha Abdel Karim Hamoud gave a training course at the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Technology entitled (Modern Scientific Models in Determining the Size of Purchase Orders) for the period (10-14 / 12/2017). The course was attended by a number of employees of the National Drilling Company of the Ministry of Oil / South Oil Branch.

A seminar entitled (The algorithm of pupil discrimination based on the extraction of the feature of determining the direction of view)
The Department of Computer Science held a seminar entitled "The algorithm of pupil identification based on drawing the direction of the perspective." presented by Dr. Hana Mohsen and the PhD student Salami Hamidi Monday 8/12/2017 on the discussion room in the building of the department.
The seminar was attended by the head of the department. Dr. Hala Bahjat Abdul Wahab and the members of the Scientific Committee and a large number of students and researchers, It is worth mentioning that this research participated in the sixth annual conference for information and communication, which was held in the Sultanate of Oman and was admired by researchers becuase it is the first of its kind in Iraq. The idea of research is to provide the opportunity for people with special needs who lost their hands, for example by using the eye view instead of pressing the keyboard in the mobile phone to contact people or perform other activities.

Department of Computer Sciences held a meeting of its General Assembly
The first meeting of the General Assembly for the academic year 2017-2018 was held in the Department of Computer Sciences on Wednesday 29/11/2017. The meeting was attended by the Head of Computer Sciences Department. Dr. Hala Bahjat Abdul Wahab and the Scientific Assistant. Dr. Alia Karim Abdel Hassan and the Administrative Assistant Dr. Ayad Roudan Abbas and faculty members, the meeting began with the Department's presidency celebration of the birth of our Prophet by distributing candy for the occasion, the meeting discussed the following topics:
- determine the study plan for this year, thanks and appreciation was given by the head of the department to all members of the faculty for their outstanding efforts, especially the heads of the branches who left their positions and continue to give.
- The department's conference to be held in April. Approvals were obtained. The conference works to be published in the Journal of the University of Technology as it is a solid journal. The head of the department urged the staff to work towards the completion of researches and the need to publish it.
- The Courses system for the first and second levels and exam timings.
- Praise the efforts of the staff of the department who obtained the first positions in the ministerial examinations.
- Emphasis on scientific research and the need to commit to the specific speciality and according to the instructions and praised the Graduate Studies Committee and for their performance.
- Preparing for the quarterly exams for the third and fourth stages of the annual system.
- Re-reviewing the curriculum by the sub-scientific committees to be applied for one year and returned.
- Emphasis on the rigor of the lectures and the importance of students' homework.
- The necessity to use the virtual library and the registration of all students of the primary and graduate studies.
- Rationalization of electricity consumption.
- Commending the electronic archiving systems in the department in the various fields.

Programming and activating Robots Workshop
A workshop entitled "Programming and Activation of the Robot" was held in the Department of Computer Sciences on Tuesday and Wednesday (28 and 29/11/2017) on the discussion hall in the department. by Lect. Asst. Wissam Mahmoud Lefta and Eng. Ali Akram Said. The workshop included the following topics:
- General concepts of robots and their importance as a future science.
- Methods of connecting and programming robots.
- How to control robots remotely.
- Using the best algorithms to control robots and how to activate them.
- Robots requirements (hardware and software).
- Programming and building robots using Arduino.
Recommendations:
- Activate the robotics lab in computer sciences department and establish a special branch in Arduino for its ease of use and practical application.
- The establishment of a team from different departments in the university with robot speciality to share experiences for the development of local robots, located in the Department of Computer Sciences.
- Conduct courses inside and outside the country to develop the workers in this field for the purpose of generalizing their experiences to students.
- Negotiating with the Ministries who are interested in robots and obtain financial support from them.

The Department of Computer Sciences, represented by its professors and students, held a welcoming party for the students of the first stage on the department's garden on Monday 27/11/2017 where roses and sweets were distributed to the new students wishing them a successful academic year.
