A master's thesis in the Department of Computer Science discusses a proposed prediction system for cryptocurrency transactions based on recurrent neural networks.
In the presence of the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Department of Computer Science discussed the master's thesis titled "Proposed Prediction System for Cryptocurrency Transactions Based on Recurrent Neural Network" by master's student Rehab Qasim Abdul-Kadhim, Computer Science / General, on Thursday, 2nd May 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadel Abdul-Qader Hall in the Computer Science Department annex.
The thesis aims to design a system that predicts prices, closing prices, and trading prices for cryptocurrency investors. This prediction helps investors avoid losses and improve profits. The thesis presented an innovative model capable of making highly accurate predictions, demonstrating the efficacy of recurrent neural networks. The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Yusra Hussein Ali as chairperson, and members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul-Zahra Abdullah, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Gathwan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hassanain Samir Abdullah as a member and supervisor, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Jassim Hadi as a member and supervisor.

Discussion of Graduation Projects Nominated by the Computer Science Department in the Fifth Festival of Final Year Projects
The Computer Science Department discussed ten outstanding graduation projects from the fourth-year students as part of the Fifth Festival of Final Year Projects for the 2023-2024 academic year. The projects were evaluated by a university committee of faculty members, with the presence of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and the supervising professors, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadhel Abdul Qader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department.

The Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, awarded certificates of appreciation to the Computer Science Department student team (Abdulqaddous Hamid Masleh from the Multimedia Branch, Rusul Mohammed Hussein from the Information Systems Branch, and Murtadha Jassim Hussein from the Software Branch) for securing second place in the Grand Challenge Competition in the Information Technology category. The competition was organized by the Student Activities Department of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority and held at Al-Noor University in Nineveh Province from April 21 to April 25, 2024.

The Five-Seminar Series for Monitoring PhD Students in the Computer Science Department
Under the presence of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Five-Seminar Series for Monitoring PhD Students took place today, Thursday, April 25, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadhel Abdul Qader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department. The seminars were attended by members of the committees assigned to monitor the students.
During the seminars, students presented their latest progress and highlighted the major challenges they faced. Progress percentages were recorded, and solutions were proposed and discussed with the students and their supervisors to complete the thesis requirements.

The Computer Science Department holds its second general assembly meeting for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The Computer Science Department held its second general assembly meeting for the 2023-2024 academic year, attended by the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and all faculty members. The meeting took place today, Monday, April 29, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall in the Computer Science Department building.
During the meeting, perspectives were aligned, obstacles were addressed, and the exam schedule was discussed in preparation for the end-of-second-semester exams. The Head of the Department emphasized the importance of adhering to the invigilation schedule and praised the advanced level achieved by the department's laboratories, which received the highest scores in the Laboratory Accreditation Program. The meeting also covered the distribution of projects and the introduction of a PhD program in Data Security within the Computer Science Department, the first of its kind in the country. The Head of the Department commended the exceptional efforts of the teaching staff in making the current academic year successful.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Department awarded certificates of appreciation to the faculty members who ranked in the top ten for the H-index and for their active contributions to providing the university with highly cited scientific research, thus enhancing the academic reputation of the Computer Science Department. He wished them continued success and excellence.

The Computer Science Department organizes a seminar titled 'An Introductory Lecture on Cloud Networking and Collaboration Methods
Under the auspices of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, with the attendance of the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tarek Mouloud, the Computer Science Department organized a seminar titled "An Introductory Lecture on Cloud Networking and Collaboration Methods." This seminar was part of the cultural and scientific program for the second semester and was held today, Sunday, April 28, 2024, in the late Professor Dr. Abbas Fadhel Abdul Qader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department.
The lecture was delivered by consultant trainer Amthal Adnan Al-Dhahir. The seminar covered the concept of cloud computing, which is an advanced technology that transfers computer storage to the so-called cloud, a server accessed via the internet. Cloud computing eliminates the need for users to store data on their devices. In education, its benefits include promoting collaboration between learners and teachers and providing numerous resources and services, allowing lectures to be accessed without the need for books. Many countries are currently adopting these networks and incorporating them into university curricula at low costs.
At the end of the seminar, the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tarek Mouloud, awarded a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in recognition of his efforts in delivering the lecture.

The Computer Science Department team won second place in the Grand Challenge Competition in the Information Technology category, organized by the Student Activities Department of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority, in collaboration with the Iraqi Scouts Association for universities and colleges, both public and private. The competition was held at Al-Noor University in Nineveh Province from April 21 to April 25, 2024.
Certificates of participation were awarded to students Abdulqaddous Hamid Masleh from the Multimedia Branch, Murtadha Jassim Hussein from the Software Branch, and Rusul Mohammed Hussein from the Information Systems Branch, in appreciation of their active participation in this competition.

As part of the regular meetings held by the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, with the Laboratories Division, a meeting was conducted today, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadhel Abdul Qader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department. The meeting was attended by the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tarek Mouloud, the Director of the Laboratories Division, Assistant Lecturer Atheer Raheem, and the laboratory supervisors.
The Head of the Department listened to suggestions aimed at developing the Laboratories Division and reviewed the latest achievements in the internal audit system and laboratory quality. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and confirmed the department's readiness to provide all the necessary resources to the laboratories to enhance their scientific level.

Under the auspices of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and with the attendance of the Administrative Assistant in the Computer Science Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, and the department's staff, the Computer Science Department organized a workshop on risk management and the implementation of an emergency plan according to the ISO: 45001/2018 standard.
The workshop took place from April 23, 2024, to April 24, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadhel Abdul Qader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department. The lecture was delivered by the expert consultant Majed Ahmed Ali and the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi. This workshop is significant as it combines educational and practical aspects, explaining the emergency plan that will be adopted to minimize losses from expected incidents in accordance with the ISO: 45001/2018 standard.
This plan includes the evacuation of human resources and public properties, first aid, and firefighting, with a live practice of the workshop to be conducted in the coming days. At the end of the workshop, the Administrative Assistant awarded the lecturer a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his efforts in delivering this lecture.
