A PhD Dissertation in the Computer Science Department Discusses Handwritten Signature Verification Using Optimization Methods
The Computer Science Department discussed the PhD dissertation titled "Verification of Handwritten Signatures Using Optimization Methods" by PhD student Zainab Hashim Ftoohi in the late Dr. Abbas Fadel Abdulqader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
The dissertation aims to verify handwritten signatures to determine if they are genuine or forged and to authenticate the identity of the signer. An enhanced system for handwritten signature verification using artificial intelligence techniques was proposed. The proposed methods in the dissertation showed promising results in distinguishing between genuine and forged signatures, outperforming existing systems.

A PhD Dissertation in the Computer Science Department Discusses Speaker Feature Identification for Human-Machine Interaction
The Computer Science Department discussed the PhD dissertation titled "Speaker Profiling for Human-Robot Interaction" by PhD student Umnia Hamid Jaad on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadel Abdulqader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department.
The dissertation aims to identify speaker features from voice and proposes two new algorithms for feature testing: the ascending selection algorithm and the fuzzy union algorithm. The proposed methods in the dissertation yield consistent results in extracting the speaker's age, height, and gender.

Participation of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Flexible Computing and Computer Applications in a Workshop
The editorial board of the Journal of Flexible Computing and Computer Applications participated in the "Scopus Content Selection for Editors in the Arab Region" workshop, held online on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The workshop focused on indexing standards within Scopus and featured a guest expert from the Global Advisory Board of Scopus, which comprises 17 experts. Many journal editors from various Arab and foreign countries attended the workshop.

A Master's Thesis in the Computer Science Department Discusses a Framework for Real-Time Face Recognition and Tracking Using a Convolutional Neural Network
The Computer Science Department discussed the Master's thesis titled "A Real-Time Face Recognition and Tracking Framework Using Lightweight Convolutional Neural Network" by Master's student Aseel Wadood Majeed on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the late Dr. Abbas Fadel Abdulqader Hall in the annex building of the Computer Science Department.
The thesis aims to develop a framework for real-time face recognition using a lightweight CNN, taking into account challenges related to facial images such as variations in lighting and expressions, which affect the application and recognition results.

A Faculty Member from the Computer Science Department Lectures in a Workshop on the Most Important Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Electromechanical Engineering
Professor Dr. Ahmed Tariq Sadiq from the Computer Science Department lectured in a workshop titled "The Most Important Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Electromechanical Engineering" on Thursday, May 9, 2024, in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering. The workshop was attended by the Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ghassan Abdul Hussein Bilal, the Scientific Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Hassan Jabal, and the heads of the Electromechanical Engineering Department branches.
The workshop aimed to introduce the most important artificial intelligence techniques that benefit the electromechanical engineering disciplines.
The workshop covered several topics, including machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and optimization algorithms.
The workshop recommended preparing a curriculum for a smart technologies course for master's studies in the fields of electromechanical engineering, energy engineering, renewable energy engineering, electromechanical systems engineering, and navigation and guidance engineering.
The workshop concluded with a Q and A session to address participants' questions and inquiries.

Are you ready to turn your ideas into software solutions that address real-world problems for you and your peers? If so, join us in the Tech Skill Competition presented by Zain Iraq. Based on the mission of the University of Technology, represented by the Career Development and Employment Division in the Office of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, in supporting graduates and youth, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Tech Skill Program, a one-and-a-half-month training program starting from May 15, 2024, and ending with a technology competition from June 23-27, 2024. The program and competition aim to develop the skills of graduates in the fields of science, engineering, and technology to keep pace with the rapid developments in the field by addressing one of the challenges faced by the university, its graduates, and its students by developing and presenting appropriate technical and software solutions.
Important Dates:
- Registration start date: May 12, 2024
- Registration end date: May 13, 2024 (noon)
- Preparatory interview date: May 14, 2024 (morning) at the Career Development and Employment Division
Application Requirements: The applicant must meet the following conditions:
- Submit an electronic (program - application - system) that solves a specific problem or presents a new idea that adds value to the community.
- Exclusively for 2022-2023 graduates.
- Has experience or interest in developing software and technological solutions.
