The Computer Science Department discussed the master's thesis titled:
Automated Evaluation of Student's Handwritten Answers to Arabic Poetic Poems
by the master's student Huda Sabah Shaker, specializing in Computer Science / Information Systems, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The thesis aims to develop a system based on deep learning for the automatic evaluation of Arabic handwritten text. Arabic text poses challenges due to its cursive nature, which increases the difficulty of recognition. The system relies on a convolutional neural network and has achieved high recognition rates, efficiency, accuracy, and fast response times. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Firas Abdul Hameed Abdul Latif as Chair, and members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhad Mal Allah Kazem, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuha Jameel Ibrahim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raheem Abdul Sahib Akla as a member and supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Abdulmunem Saleh Rahma as a member and supervisor.

The Computer Science Department organizes a workshop on the Speicher Massacre and human rights violations.
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, with the presence of the Administrative Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, and the Scientific Assistant, Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, the Computer Science Department organized, as part of the first semester activities, the workshop titled:
"The Speicher Massacre and Human Rights Violations"
The workshop was presented by (Dr. Haider Zweir, faculty member at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, and political program host on Al-Iraqiya TV) and (Muqdad Fadel Hussein, Legal Advisor and Head of Registration in the Computer Science Department) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the Computer Science Department building.
The workshop discussed the concept of violations, which includes humiliation and undermining the self-worth of an individual or group, and the concept of justice, defined as impartiality in any human trial. It also covered human rights as a set of basic rights that must not be infringed upon, and addressed the violations committed by the Zionist entity against Arab nations, backed by Western countries. The workshop noted that nations supporting this entity enjoy security, while those opposing it face constant danger and disruptions in their political and security systems. The workshop further introduced aspects of international law, classifying the Speicher Massacre as a genocide since it targeted a group of innocent students. It called on the international community to criminalize the terrorist organization responsible for the massacre, aiming to raise public awareness of the suffering caused by the atrocity. At the end of the workshop, the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Mustafa Jassim, awarded certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in recognition of their efforts in delivering the workshop.

The Computer Science Department discussed the doctoral dissertation titled:
Face Mask Detection and Tracking of Video Stream Using Deep Learning
by the PhD student (Shahed Fadel Abbas), majoring in General Computer Science, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The dissertation aims to develop an adaptive and accurate system for face detection and tracking, which involves using a face image with a mask to extract features with high accuracy. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abdulameer Abdullah Kareem as Chair, and members Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Natheer Ibrahim, Prof. Dr. Hassanein Sameer Abdullah, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raheem Abdul Sahib Akla, Assoc. Second-year students in the Computer Security and Cybersecurity branch present a practical workshop on Kali Linux.
As part of enhancing students' skills in the field of cybersecurity, second-year students in the Computer Security and Cybersecurity branch conducted a training workshop for their peers on how to install and use the Kali Linux operating system. The workshop included an introduction to the essential cybersecurity tools available in the system, aiming to increase awareness of security tools and their basic uses.
The workshop was presented by students: Israa Raed, Naba Ali, Mohammed Issa, Dhurgham Kazem, and Murtadha Mohammed. They demonstrated tools that will be used later in the operating system, including Cewl, Crunch, Hashcat, John, Johnny, Medusa, ncrack, Nmap, Ohrwurm, Powerfuzzer, and Sfuzz, explaining the functions and importance of these tools in cybersecurity.
This workshop is part of the Computer Science Department's plan to enhance theoretical and practical knowledge in cybersecurity as part of the "Stream Cipher" course, under the supervision of the theoretical instructor Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan and the practical instructor Assistant Lecturer Fadel Abbas Fadel. The workshop received notable engagement from the students.

The Computer Science Department discussed the doctoral dissertation titled:
Big Data Analysis Based Business Intelligence Using Hybrid CNN-RNN
by the PhD student (Asaad Raheem Kareem), majoring in General Computer Science, on Monday, October 28, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The dissertation aims to develop a business intelligence learning platform capable of performing effective predictive analyses on future trends, making quick decisions, and identifying error rates to handle big data with multiple characteristics. It was concluded that the business intelligence platform effectively managed diverse data types and multiple interactions. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Tareq Sadeq as Chair, and members Prof. Dr. Matheel Imaduddin Abdulmunem, Prof. Dr. Hanaa Muhsin Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Iyad Rawdan Abbas, Assoc. Under the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, the Computer Science Department at the University of Technology has commenced, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the comprehensive (oral) exam for doctoral graduate students who passed the first round for the academic year 2023-2024, on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, attended the exam to observe the exam process, assess the students' levels, and commend the examination committees for their efforts, wishing our students success and progress.

by the student (Sanaa Ali Jabir), majoring in General Computer Science, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the department building. The dissertation aims to develop an effective resource allocation system in a computing environment capable of predicting workload patterns and distributing resources according to these patterns. The proposed system contributes to improving service quality by reducing waiting times and increasing throughput. The proposed dataset played a crucial role in training these models and evaluating their performance. The Computer Science Department organizes a lecture on the importance of educational counseling in achieving academic success for university students
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and the supervision of the Head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhom Farhan, the Computer Science Department organized the lecture titled:
"The Importance of Educational Counseling in Achieving Academic Success for Students"
by Assistant Professor Dr. Suhair Mohammed Zaki, in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit. The lecture was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall, attended by the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tareq Mawlood; the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi; and members of the faculty.
This lecture was dedicated to the liaison members of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the department. It covered various topics, including the definition and types of counseling (individual and group), the rationale for counseling, the impact of social, familial, and political changes, and the influence of media on students. The lecture also addressed ways to improve academic performance, areas and approaches of counseling, preventive methods used by educational counselors, the importance of in-class and extracurricular activities, qualities of an educational counselor, the appropriate timing for counseling, and regular meetings for educational counseling committee members.
At the end of the lecture, the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tareq Mawlood, awarded the lecturer a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts in delivering the lecture.

Detect Interpolated Video Frame Based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)
by the student (Ayat Razzaq Abbas), specializing in Computer Science/System Software, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhom Hall in the Computer Science Department building on Monday, October 15, 2024. The thesis aims to design a system for detecting tampering in video frames based on convolutional neural networks for classification. The proposed system consists of four integrated stages, with the most visible aspects in the image, such as edges and colors, being automatically identified and adapted accordingly. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Iqbas Ezzedine Ali as Chair, and members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulwahab Sami Ibrahim, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hiba Basim Alwan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ikhlas Faleh Nasser as a member and supervisor.

The Computer Science Department is crowned the student champion in the University of Technology Chess Tournament, achieving first place.
The student Ali Nizar Sharif from the Computer Science Department, Computer Security and Cybersecurity Branch, was crowned the champion of the student competition after scoring 7 points from winning all matches in the University of Technology Chess Tournament for students for the 2024-2025 academic year. The tournament was held on Monday, October 14, 2024, in the Central Library Hall, in the presence of the University Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Farhad Mohammed Othman, with the participation of 67 male students and 17 female students representing the scientific and engineering departments of the university.

The meeting, attended by the Director of the Counseling Unit, Dr. Mohammed Ghani, took place on Monday, October 14, 2024, in the department council.
The meeting covered several topics, including the sub-committees' preparation of proposed activities for the 2024-2025 academic year, setting a weekly day for student meetings, selecting a student from each stage to work confidentially with the sub-committee to monitor cases requiring follow-up, and issuing new orders regarding the sub-committees.
